Market research report on composite utility poles.

2023-09-25

1, the application of the pole

The structure of pole and tower is an important special supporting structure in the infrastructure of transmission, communication, railway, airport, municipal, etc. Its structural performance directly affects the safety, economy and reliability of the line. Traditional poles are wood poles, cement poles and steel pipe poles, and all kinds of defects are gradually exposed in long-term operation.

The poles used in overhead transmission lines at home and abroad are mainly steel poles and concrete poles, and wooden poles are basically no longer used. At present, concrete poles are widely used on 35 ~ 110KV lines, steel pipe poles and steel pipe concrete poles are used more in the construction and transformation of urban power grids, and in the lines of 220KV and above, grid type towers are mostly used. Traditional poles have defects such as high quality, easy to rot, rust or cracking, short service life, and difficult construction, transportation, operation and maintenance, and are prone to various safety hazards.

Fiber reinforced resin matrix composite materials (hereinafter referred to as composite materials) with light, high strength, corrosion resistance, electrical insulation, performance can be designed and other characteristics, is the transmission pole and tower structure materials of the ideal choice, favored by the domestic and foreign power industry, has gradually in the domestic Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan and other coastal areas began to apply.

For example, the high strength glass fiber composite pole developed by Hebei Zhengtong Glass Steel Co., Ltd. has been used in Guangdong, Jiangxi, Qinghai and other users to prove that the product not only has good physical properties, long service life, adapt to various bad weather environments, but also non-toxic and environmental protection, low comprehensive cost, is the ideal product for current power transmission.

Market demand description

1. Description of foreign markets

The world's largest pole market is in the United States and Canada, followed by Northern Europe and the rest of Europe. The manufacturing and application of composite poles are mainly concentrated in North America and Europe. The poles in the Asian region are basically still based on concrete cement poles, and wooden poles are still used in the sector.

Sharkspeare is the first company to develop composite poles. The company applied for a patent on the pole design and manufacturing method in the United States in 1996 and in the United Kingdom in 1998. In addition, Powertrusion and North Pacific Composites are also engaged in the production of composite poles. RS, a Canadian company, began to develop composite poles in the mid-1990s.

For its original RS modular composite transmission pole manufacturing process, it won the Manufacturing Technology Innovation Award from the American Composite Manufacturing Association (ASWA) in 2005 through its subsidiary, RS Technologies. RS pole is a combination socket structure pole. The poles are made of fiber-reinforced thermosetting resin composites with VersionTM polyurethane as the base. RS is ready to begin commercial production of the world's largest composite pole after completing the 36m pole test, and will develop a further 41m pole.

Since 1992, the United States has put forward the research plan of using bolt-free assembly of composite materials to form a tower in the development plan. Developed by EbertCom-posites in conjunction with two California utilities, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDGE) and Southern California Edison (SCE), it has installed three of these test towers at the Ormond Beach Power Station in Oxnard, California. And it's on the southern California coast in an area of high salt pollution. The operation data show that these towers can be used stably for a long time.

2. Description of domestic market

At present, the application of electric poles in China is mainly cement electric poles, steel pipe poles and reinforced concrete electric poles. With the increasingly mature research and development of fiber reinforced resin matrix composite pole technology, excellent performance is favored by domestic power companies.

Especially in the coastal areas of Guangdong, Guangxi, Zhejiang and Hainan, the severe weather of typhoons knocked down countless power poles. Typhoon Rammasun in 2014 alone destroyed more than 80,000 cement and steel power poles in Guangdong. But a composite (fiberglass and polyurethane) test pole developed by BASF and its customers survived the typhoon. Therefore, there is an inevitable trend for fiber-reinforced resin matrix composite poles to replace traditional poles (cement poles, steel pipe poles and reinforced concrete poles).

During the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period, the State Grid Company invests about 300 billion yuan every year, of which 200 billion yuan is used to purchase equipment and materials, and by 2020, it will build a "five vertical and five horizontal" UHV backbone grid. Concrete poles, a very traditional industry, have achieved good results under the favorable environment of the country's continuous strengthening of infrastructure construction. Statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics show that in 2014, the national output of electric poles was 13.36 million, an increase of 8.2% over the same period last year, maintaining a steady growth level.

Statistics from the "China Report Database" in January to August 2015, the production of cement concrete poles 9,084,900, an increase of 4.15%.
